Much has been written about the benefits of having a new garage door installed – but mainly from a functional perspective. At the Garage Door and Automation Company, we know that there’s a lot more to a garage door than what it’s capable of: style is an important part of the decision.
But how do you choose which style best suits your home? Do you have to make a compromise? The simple answer is ‘no’. Take a look at our handy tips to choosing a garage door that not only looks great, but does everything it says on the tin.
What’s the Environment?
Where you live and everything from the climate to the air-quality can have a bearing on the style of door you choose. For example, if you live by the sea, there’s likely to be salt in the air – which can impact on wooden doors. Those living by the coast might be better off buying a steel or fibreglass door, to extend its lifespan. In addition, if you’re in a part of the UK that regularly experiences snow, you also might be better off with a steel or fibreglass door, as the moisture in the snow and the extremes of temperature can, over time, warp wood.
What’s your Style?
This can be the sticking-point for many of our customers: deciding on the style. Our advice is to look at a particular feature of your home and buy a door that will complement it. For example, if you have rich, wooden window-sills, then a rich, wooden garage door will only add to your house’s appearance. It’s also worth taking note of any colours present on the exterior walls. Certain colours complement others, so it’s worth trying to find one that does. Similarly, brickwork can be enhanced by choosing the right colours and materials.
